María Isabel Rodríguez-Franco

Scientific Researcher, Medicinal Chemistry Institute (CSIC)

PhD Organic Chemistry, Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM).

María Isabel is the principal investigator of this research group focused in the design, synthesis and biological evaluation of new molecules with pharmacological activity. Along her career she has leaded different drug discovery projects, especially in the field of neurological pathologies, including Alzheimer’s disease. Her current research interests are focused on the fields of Regenerative Medicine and Photopharmacology, by the development of innovative neurogenic agents and photoswitchable drugs, respectively. She has an in-house chemical library with more than 1,000 privileged structures to act in the CNS and has also experiments for the in vitro evaluation of drug-type properties, such as oral absorption and penetration in the central
nervous system (PAMPA methodology). She has supervised 9 Doctoral Theses and more than 20 Master’s Degrees. She is the author of more than 80 scientific articles, 10 patents and a CSIC know-how technological offer.
