During her doctoral thesis, Irene devoted herself to study the role of the second messenger cyclic di-GMP in rhizobacteria at the genetic, physiological, and host interaction levels, which led her to characterize a transduction system that regulates the production of an exopolysaccharide recently described. He carried out two research stays at Estación Experimental del Zaidín (CSIC, Granada) and the Laboratory of Plant-Microbe Interactions (INRA, Toulouse). Outside the academic world, Irene has worked as R&I project consultant for H2020 calls, and is currently a project management assistant for the NRF24AD Project, where she offers support in different activities such as management, promotion, internationalization, and fund raising.
